CHURCH SOCIAL MEDIA CHECKLIST Weekly, monthly, quarterly, and the four checks before anything goes out. From Church Posting: https://churchposting.com/resources/communications/church-social-media-checklist/ Version 2026-07-29. Print it, tape it inside the cupboard door, and cross things off. Minutes are a budget, not a measurement. They are set as a ceiling. When the minutes run out, the item is finished. Church: _______________________________________________________________ Names, once, so nobody has to ask again: Whoever has the phone ......... ______________________________________ The writer .................... ______________________________________ The approver (elder or staff) . ______________________________________ The scheduler ................. ______________________________________ Second person who can get in .. ______________________________________ ================================================================================ THE FOUR CHECKS 90 seconds, per post ================================================================================ Run these in this order on every single post, including the ones the elder already read. If a check fails, the post waits. A post that waits an hour costs nothing. [ ] 1. A FACE 30 sec Is anyone recognizable under 18? Open the release list and search the surname. No entry, no post. First names only in the caption, and never the school, the street, or where the child will be next week. [ ] 2. A NUMBER 20 sec Read the time, the day, and the street address out loud, off the draft, against the page a stranger would land on. A wrong service time is the one mistake that turns a visitor around in the parking lot. [ ] 3. A PICTURE YOU DID NOT TAKE 20 sec Name the source in the post, or swap it for a photograph you took yourself. Free to use is not the same as no conditions. If there is recorded music under a clip, it needs a license, and a church page is not personal use. [ ] 4. A LINK 20 sec Tap it. On the phone, from inside the draft, not from a desktop bookmark your own browser is answering out of its cache. ================================================================================ EVERY WEEK 71 minutes ================================================================================ SUNDAY 22 min [ ] Eight shots, during and after the service ......................... 10 min Whoever has the phone. The eight: the room filling, the open Bible on the lectern, hands in a hymnal, the coffee table, a child's drawing, two people talking in the aisle, the building from the sidewalk, the door somebody walks in through. Faces turned away or in profile. [ ] The Sunday photograph goes out, with the passage ................... 12 min The scheduler. Chapter and verse, not the preacher's best phrase. Run the four checks first. MONDAY 25 min [ ] Draft all three of the week's posts in one sitting ................. 25 min The writer. Sunday's photograph is already out, so these are the midweek sermon quotation, the Thursday invitation, and one of your own choosing. Write them as text in one document, not in the app. TUESDAY 14 min [ ] The approver reads all three drafts ................................. 8 min An elder or a staff member. Their five minutes happen before the post, not after the apology. Anything touching doctrine, money, a pastoral crisis, or a family in trouble waits for them. [ ] Four checks on each draft, then schedule Wednesday and Thursday ..... 6 min The scheduler. After this, nothing else this week needs a person. FRIDAY 10 min [ ] Answer the messages and the comments .............................. 10 min The scheduler. An unanswered message on a church page reads as a building nobody is in. ALL WEEK 0 min [ ] The fourth slot stays empty. It holds a death, a weather closure, or a correction. If none of those happens, nothing posts. An empty slot is not a missed post. ================================================================================ EVERY MONTH, FIRST MONDAY 40 minutes ================================================================================ [ ] Read one number and write it in the same place ..................... 5 min Clicks from the profile to the page that carries your service times. Follower count answers nothing. [ ] Reread the pinned post as a stranger ............................... 8 min Time, street address, what happens with children, how long the service runs. If it does not answer all four, rewrite it now. [ ] Tap every link in the bio and the pinned post ...................... 4 min [ ] Make the service times agree in all three places ................... 8 min The social profile, your own website, and the Google Business Profile. Special hours for a holiday go in before the holiday, not after. [ ] Fill next month's known dates into the empty slots ................ 10 min A members' meeting, a baptism service, a guest preacher, a holiday closure. [ ] Delete one dead thing .............................................. 5 min An event page for an event that already happened, a link to a page that no longer exists, a pinned post from last Easter. ================================================================================ EVERY QUARTER 110 minutes ================================================================================ [ ] List everyone who can get into every account ...................... 20 min Write the names down. Remove anyone who has left the church, left the role, or cannot be reached this week. [ ] Confirm two people can get in ..................................... 10 min Two, both current members or staff, and not a volunteer's cousin in another state. Have the second person actually log in while you watch. [ ] Refresh the release list .......................................... 25 min New families since last quarter. Anyone who asked to come off. The standing no list is permanent and it wins over a good photograph. [ ] Read the last ninety days of posts in one sitting ................. 20 min Count how many gave a stranger a time and an address. If it is under a third, your feed is a hallway sign published to the internet. [ ] Check the license on anything with music in it .................... 10 min A live-performed worship song and an original artist recording are two different licenses. Confirm which one you hold. [ ] Rewrite the pinned post ........................................... 15 min [ ] Test the whole thing on a phone that has never seen your page ..... 10 min Search the church name. Land on the profile. Find Sunday's time in fifteen seconds. If you cannot, a visitor cannot. ================================================================================ THE STANDING NO LIST ================================================================================ Anyone who asks to be left off the page goes here, permanently, with no discussion and no exception for a good photograph. Nobody has to give a reason. Name Date asked Applies to children ______________________________________ ____________ ___________________ ______________________________________ ____________ ___________________ ______________________________________ ____________ ___________________ ______________________________________ ____________ ___________________ ______________________________________ ____________ ___________________ ================================================================================ THE RELEASE LOG ================================================================================ One line per family. Signed by a parent or guardian for anyone under 18. Renew it at the start of each school year and date every signature. Family Children covered Signed by Date Expires ________________ ____________________ ________________ ________ ________ ________________ ____________________ ________________ ________ ________ ________________ ____________________ ________________ ________ ________ ________________ ____________________ ________________ ________ ________ ________________ ____________________ ________________ ________ ________ ================================================================================ THE ANNUAL TOTAL ================================================================================ 71 minutes a week, 40 a month, 110 a quarter. That is 4,612 minutes, or about 77 hours a year, which is roughly an hour and a half a week averaged out. Decide that number is worth spending before you decide which app to spend it in.
